DIY Lighted Dollar Tree Gift Bag Canvas

About a year ago I tried to make my very first Lighted Canvas using a Dollar Tree Dollar Tree Gift Bag. I even made a small step by step tutorial on how I did it, “A Day of First“. After I finished my first canvas I went on to do several more. I tried all different ways and products. After doing so many I was able to come up with some little Tips and Tricks to make it easier and for me a bit more fun. I thought I should pass these little ideas on to you and maybe you can use them or they can spark an idea in you so you come up with a simpler way of doing this.

I must warn you now, this is not a “FAST” project and probably not much fun for a young child. It has a lot of drying time, which makes it great as a time fill in during small breaks while doing housework, before work or doing other projects. Each step only takes 10 to 15 minutes each and there are 6 steps. This is a long project, but it is so worth it. I promise you will love it!

Things you will need:

  1. Gift Bag of Your Choice – cut out picture
  2. Canvas – Bigger than the Picture you chose
  3. Paint – Your Choice of Color for Canvas
  4. Mod Podge
  5. Tape or Ribbon for Picture Edges
  6. Thin Cardboard cut 1/2 inch smaller than Canvas
  7. Lights – Small Battery Operated
  8. 2 Sided Tape
  9. Painters Tape
  10. Glue
  11. Glue Gun with Glue
  12. Skewer for making holes
  13. Paint Brushes
  14. Scissors

Below is a Video showing how I do mine. This is a long video, my apologies, but I wanted to try and answer any questions you might have.
