It was a bittersweet day. I finished off the Christmas Eve Boxes for my grandkids, which made me a bit sad, because I was done. I really enjoyed every minute of it. I am glad I was able to finish all of them on time. I love how they turned out. I am proud of all the little personal touches I put into them. I honestly don’t even mind that they aren’t the “To Die For” gifts they will brag about to their friends. I know a secret they don’t. I know many years from now, long after I am gone, they will remember the boxes Grandma Bonna gave them every Christmas Eve and they will smile. It will be a good memory and I was able to give it to them. If I am lucky it will be carried on for many generations.
I was also able to pass on a tradition my mother started many years ago. After my father passed, my mom had to basically downsize. So every year she would pass on parts of her many Christmas Collections. Every year she would make sure her kids and grandkids got a piece of her collection. With her passing this year, that tradition was about to stop. Until I went looking for 8 Christmas mugs to use for the hot cocoa kit. What better place to look than a plastic tub of cups that had belonged to my mom. There were exactly 8 Christmas mugs. All different, all well used and all just perfect. So with the help of my sister, who prints like a pro, I had Grandma and Grandpa Farmer and 2016 printed on the bottom.
You can call me old fashioned or sentimental or just a bit silly, but I love Traditions. Specially ones that bring back wonderful memories of loved ones. My wish is that I can be remembered with smiles, laughter and even an occasional eye roll. I am planting my memory traditions now, so they can blossom later.
So let me show you how my Christmas Eve Boxes turned out…
These were so fun and I can’t wait to do them again.
Thanks for coming, and see you soon,
